ON THE WAY TO WA
This is journal of our trip to WA where we record interesting things that we find along the way.
On the road by 9AM
Half an hour into our trip I remembered what I had forgotten - my AVan keys and to read a list of last minute things that I wanted to remember. Ah well, at least we didn't have to return home for them!
We headed for Cooma across the Monaro Plains with golden poplars and logging trucks. the country appears to be very prosperous - newly painted houses, new buildings and modern cars and trucks. We stopped just south of Nimmitabel for lunch at a wetland/lake. Out came the binoculars (bins) and cameras to have a look at the birds - Eurasian Coots, Mallards and Pacific Black Ducks.

Lakes Entrance
We stayed at Lakes Entrance (LE) in a very small, charming, back to the 1950s caravan park called Idleours. Harry is the resident dog, who sits in the middle of the driveway. Apparently he moves for no one. LE, although usually full of tourists, was very quiet as the school holidays ended the previous week. Right across from Idleours was the beach with a walkway along the edge. We followed it to the footbridge which we crossed over to the surf beach. No swimmers or surfers!!! Must have been too cold. After all that exercise we thought we deserved a treat so we had gluten free fish and chips from the Footbridge fish and chip shop. Delicious!!! They use separate frying vats for GF food and stamp the packaging with COELIAC in red letters. How good is that!!! Nothing like sitting on the beach eating fish and chips, identifying the local seabirds - Silver Gulls. Also saw pelicans and Pacific Gulls and Black Swans.
